PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine and a method for the inspection of a seal, in which a seal defect can be inspected simply. SOLUTION: This seal inspection machine is used to detect a seal defect in the seal part 11 of a housing bag 10. An electromagnetic-wave irradiation means 12 which irradiates electromagnetic waves at a wavelength which is absorbed easily by a foreign body in the seal part 11 from one side sandwiching the seal part and which is hardly absorbed by a packaging material is provided, and a means 13 by which the electromagnetic waves transmitted through the seal part 11 from the other side sandwiching the seal part 11 is provided. Then, the seal part 11 is irradiated with the electromagnetic waves, the electromagnetic waves transmitted through the seal part 11 from the other side sandwiching the seal part 11 are detected. The existence of the seal defect is discriminated on the basis of whether transmitted waves in the seal part are strong or weak.
