<p>A beginning end volume label composed of volume identification information is placed at the beginning end of a volume composed of a magnetic tape. The beginning end volume label is followed by batch files that are data portions. A last end volume label whose content is the same as the beginning end volume label is disposed on the last end side of the volume. When a volume is mounted, one of the volume labels whichever closer to the seek position is read. When a volume is unmounted, if the seek position is the last data position, the last end volume label is written after the last data position. Since the two volume labels are placed, the mounting process is performed at high speed. In addition, the reliability of the medium is improved. <IMAGE></p> |
