<p>The dashboard molding (2) has a generally rectangular central front opening (10) with, at the middle of each side, and directed inward a guide stub (22). The heater and/or air conditioner, forming a compact bloc (6), has controls (40) and two air outlets (38) on its front, so as to be accessible after installation. A rectangular frame (4), corresponding dimensionally to the dashboard aperture (10), is screwed (28) in place over the bloc's front face before final assembly. At the center of each side the frame carries an external locating recess (24) intended to receive one of the guide stubs. When the block is offered up to the dashboard aperture correct alignment is assured by the entry of the stubs into the locating recesses. The frame's final position is determined by a peripheral shoulder (14) which abuts the edge (12) of the dashboard aperture, and maintained by 4 fixing screws (36) driven through holes (32) at the top and bottom of the aperture into tapped holes (34) in raised flanges (35) on the frame. The block is clamped at the rear (50) to a cross-member (20) behind the dashboard, completing the support arrangements.</p> |
