PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening/closing means which has a simple constitution, operates stably and in which secular fluctuation does not occur for an original reader where the reader and an original transport device open/close. SOLUTION: When an original transport device is opened, a transportation drum 15 which automatically transports an original is not motor-driven because the reader is not in a normal reading state. When the original transport device is turned around a fulcrum 3 for opening/closing, a sector gear 10 fixed to the fulcrum 3 is engaged with a gear A16 and the gear of the transport drum 15 and this state functions as a load. Thus, a sudden drop is avoided when the transport device 15 returns from an opening state to an original state. The transport drum 15 rotates and the original on a transport path is moved by the opening/closing operation of the original transport device 1. Thus, if the system is designed so that a jam is detected before and after opening/closing, the jam can be detected even if the intervals of sensors 1S-3S for detecting the original jam are made larger by the shift quantity of the original.
