The invention relates to a dry compressing orbiting spindle pump comprising a stationary, therefore non-rotating during operation, outer threaded spindle that is provided as a fixed spindle (1) and comprising a rotating orbiting rotor (2) that is eccentrically arranged with regard to said fixed spindle (1). The inventive orbiting spindle pump serves to convey, from the inlet area (7) to the outlet area (9), the volumes contained in the working chambers, said chambers being sealed between the fixed spindle (1) and the orbiting rotor (2) and being formed by the threads thereof, whereby the gas inlet (9) to the inlet area (7) is effected by the fixed spindle (1). Said orbiting spindle pump is configured as a vacuum pump such that the orbiting rotor (2) contactlessly surrounds the fixed spindle (1) in the area of the working chambers, and such that the fixed spindle (1) and the orbiting rotor (2) are cooled in order to dissipate heat arising during the compression of the conveying medium. It is thus possible to attain the high number of revolutions required for a vacuum operation by virtue of the non-contactivity due to the fact that the consequential large heat build-up can be compensated for by the cooling.
