<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily and inexpensively producing artificial lightweight aggregate using a simple device and equipment. SOLUTION: The method for producing the artificial lightweight aggregate is comprised of mixing limestone being a main raw material, cement and, if necessary, calcium sulfate, then granulating the obtained mixture using a tumbling granulator such as a pelletizer and steam curing the obtained granulates under high pressure. Weight ratio of the cement and calcium sulfate is in the range of 15 to 50 wt.%, and is not more than 10 wt.% expressed in terms of CaSO4 respectively. The curing conditions are such that the temp. is in the range of 120 to 250 deg.C and the curing time is not less than 1 h, preferably not less than 3 h. The artificial lightweight aggregate thus obtained has a specific gravity in oven-dried condition of 1.4 to 2.0 g/cm3 and a uniaxial compressive fracture strength of >=30 kgf.</p> |
