摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling device for an optical fiber which is capable of cooling the optical fiber without bringing the optical fiber into contact with the optical fiber inlet section and outlet section of the cooling device when the drawn optical fiber passes the cooling device. SOLUTION: The cooling device 1 for the optical fiber cools the optical fiber by inserting the optical fiber 25 formed by heating and melting an optical fiber preform and drawing the molten optical fiber preform into a cooling pipe 41 to which cooling gas G is supplied right after the drawing. The cooling pipe 41 has gas ejection ports 3 and 4 for injecting the gas (g) approximately perpendicularly toward the optical fiber 25 in the inlet 43 and outlet 44 of the optical fiber and has a cooling gas introducing port 42 for introducing the cooling gas G into the cooling pipe 41 and a cooling gas discharge port 2 which is disposed in a position separate from the inlet 43 and outlet 44 of the optical fiber and is used to discharge the cooling gas G to the outside of the cooling pipe 41.
