PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively refine molten iron with a little quality of flux and without using slag-making agent by controlling (SiO2+TiO2+MnO+T.Fe) in top-slag after desulfurizing treatment in specified range. SOLUTION: In the case of controlling the low grade oxide of (SiO2+ TiO2+MnO+T.Fe) contained in the top-slag to 10-30 wt.%, the extra-high desulfurizing efficiency of Mg is obtd. Further, for restraining the production of the low grade oxides, the oxygen concn. in the upper space of an apparatus is desirable to be <=5%. Further, for restraining the oxidizing reaction, the slag quantity is secured and it is important to form the condition, in which the molten iron is difficult to come into contact with the atmospheric gas, and for this purpose, the amount of top-slag is desirable to be 5-20 kg/t. Furthermore, it is suitable to regulate the injection depth of desulfurizing flux to >=75 cm and Mg content in the flux to 5-30 wt.%.
