PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound having excellent agricultural and horticultural efficacy and antagonistic effect for plant disease. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [R1 is a (substituted) 1-10C alkyl, a (substituted) 2-10C alkenyl or the like; X is CHR2 (R2 is H or a 1-6C alkyl) or O; R3 is a 1-6C alkoxy; one of T, U and V is CR4, another is CH or N and the rest is CR5 or N; W is CR6 or N (R4 to R6 are each H, a halogen, a 1-6C alkyl or the like)] e.g. 5-methoxy-4-(2-methyl-5-phenylphenyl) methyl-2-methyl-3(2H)-isoxazolone. The compound of formula I is obtained by e.g. reacting an isoxazolone compound represented by formula II with an alkylating agent such as (CH3)3Si-CH=N2 or CH2=N2.
