PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily purify a fluoroalcohol expected to be an alternative of a fluorocarbon to the highly pure one without causing the deterioration, degradation or the like by bringing a gaseous fluoroalcohol into contact with an oxidant constituted of specific components in the gaseous phase. SOLUTION: A gas containing (A) a gaseous fluoroalcohol in combination with (B) gaseous impurities (preferably hydrogen and/or carbon monoxide) is brought into contact with (C) an oxidant comprising (i) a composition comprising copper oxide and manganese dioxide as active ingredients, and (ii) a noble metal (salt) to remove the gaseous impurities and purify the fluoroalcohol. The content of the component (ii) based on the component (i) in the component C is preferably 0.02-5% expressed by weight percentage as the noble metal element in the component (ii). The gas after being brought into contact with the component C is preferably brought into contact with (D) a synthetic zeolite, silica gel or alumina. Especially, the purification method is preferably usable for the purification of 1,1,1-trifluoroethanol.
