PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antibacterial agent having a clinically excellent anti- helicobacter pylori activity and also having a small possibility to cause an adverse effect by including a specific imidazoline derivative. SOLUTION: This antibacterial agent contains a compound of the formula [R1, R2 are each an alkyl, together to form an alkyl or the like; R3 to R5 are each H, a halogen, a (substituted) alkyl, a (substituted) alkoxy or the like; (n) is 0, 1], its salts, hydrides or its prodrug, e.g. 2-(2-N- trifluoroacetylaminobenzylthio)-5,5-dimethylimidazoline-4-thione. In the case of administering the above antibacterial agent to a patient who is suffered with a disease such as a peptic ulcer caused by helicobacter pylori, it is preferable to administer 1 mg to 5 g compound of the above formula for an adult (approximately 60 kg body weight) daily.
