PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further enhance treatment capacity or efficiency in sewage treatment using a return sludge method. SOLUTION: A part of sludge produced in the sedimentation basin 24 of a sewage treatment plant 10 is transferred to various pits 31 or sewer pipes 32 of the sewage pipeline 30 present outside the sewage treatment plant 10 by a return pipeline 17 to be allowed to meet with them and mixed with sewage at respective places to perform the purifying treatment of sewage in the sewage pipeline 30.
