AQUEOUS DISPERSION AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aqueous dispersion with high active ingredient concentration doubling as good handleability by holding a water-soluble cationic polymer useful as e.g. a coagulant in the water treatment area, in particular wastewater treatment activities, a papermaking chemical agent in the paper manufacturing industry in an aqueous medium as a stable dispersion form, and to provide a method for producing the aqueous dispersion. SOLUTION: This aqueous dispersion is obtained by copolymerization of a monomer mixture comprising an N-vinylcarboxylic acid amide and (meth) acrylonitrile in an aqueous medium to afford an aqueous dispersion of a substantially water-insoluble copolymer followed by acid hydrolysis of the aqueous dispersion thus afforded; wherein it is characteristic in that the copolymerization reaction is carried out in the presence of a water-soluble cationic macromolecular compound and polyethylene glycol.
