PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overlap feeding prevention mechanism having less number of parts and a simple structure. SOLUTION: In a paper feeding mechanism in which a retard roller 11 is brought into pressure-contact with a conveyance roller 2 rotating in the direction of paper conveyance and the retard roller 11 is rotated by the conveyance roller 2 by following it to convey one paper, an outer peripheral face of the retard roller 11 is divided into a high friction resistance face (m) and a low friction resistance face (n) to rotate the retard roller 11 up to a fixed angle on the high friction resistance face (m) by following, and a spring member incorporated at this time is wound up to accumulate rotation force. The following rotation are stopped on the low friction resistance face (n) to perform paper feeding operation by the conveyance roller 2, a first paper is conveyed by the conveyance roller 2 when two or more papers enter, and the other paper is pushed back by rotating the retard roller 11 reversely by the spring member to prevent overlap feeding.
