PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a one side grinding device which can fabricate a shoe of engine valve or the like having a high attachability. SOLUTION: This device has a grinding wheel 1 with its one side formed in a grinding face, a workpiece holding member 2 having a holding face 2c facing the grinding face of the grinding wheel 1, a pocket 3a which is contained such that the workpiece W protrudes both to a grinding wheel 1 side and a holding member 2 side as well as a bottom side of the workpiece W protrudes to the grinding wheel 1 side, and a carrier 3 of which the workpiece W contained in the pocket 3a moves passingly between the grinding face and the holding face 2c. The holding member 2 is fixedly mounted, a groove 2a extending to the same as a passing direction of the workpiece W is formed, and a part of workpiece W part protruded to the holding member 2 side from the carrier 3 is fitted in the groove 2a of the holding 2c. A bottom face of the workpice W is ground in a condition that a curved surface of the workpice W is pressed by a groove opening edge 2b.
