PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for preparing (3aR,4S,7aS)-4- bromooctahydro-7a-methyl-1H-indene-1,5-dione. SOLUTION: (S)-(+)-2,3,7,'7a-Tetrahydro-7a-methyl-1H-indene-1,5(6H)-dione is reacted with diisobutylaluminum hydride and hexamethylphosphoric triamide in the presence of a catalyst of the formula: R-Cu (R is a group of the formula; R1, R2 and R3 are each independently selected from a 1-7C alkyl, phenyl, phenyl substituted with at least one or more 1-4C alkyl groups, benzyl and a group composed of benzyl substituted with at least one or more 1-4C alkyl groups) to form a reduced substance, which is treated with a bromine-containing electrophilic reagent. |
