PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aromatic polycarbonate excellent in melt fluidity, etc., and useful as a material for injection molding by subjecting a specific dihydroxy compound to polycondensation with a carbonate-forming compound and specifying intrinsic viscosity and glass transition concentration. SOLUTION: (A) A dihydroxy compound comprising (i) a compound of formula I [R1 and R2 are each a 1-20C alkylene; R3 is a 1-20C alkyl; (p) is 1-4], (ii) a compound of formula II [R4 and R5 are each H, a 1-20C alkyl, a 1-20C alkoxy, a 6-20C aryl or the like; (m) and (n) are each 1-4; X is a single bond, O, carbonyl, a 1-20C alkylene or the like] and (iii) as necessary, a compound of the formula HO-R6-OH (R6 is a 1-40C alkyl) is subjected to polycondensation with (B) a carbonate-forming compound to provide the objective aromatic polycarbonate having >=0.3 g/d intrinsic viscosity (measured in 0.5 g/d concentration solution using methylene chloride as a solvent at 20 deg.C) and >=100 deg.C glass transition temperature.
