PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture image reading device capable of simply controlling conveyance speed of paper. SOLUTION: When there is a paper between upstream side rollers R1a, R1b and downstream side rollers R2a, R2b which convey paper across them, pressure- contact force of the rollers and paper and a material quality of the rollers are adjusted to cause slide between paper and rollers. Conveyance speed of paper is controlled in such a way that it is higher than drive speed of the upstream side rollers R1a, R1b and lower than drive speed of the downstream side rollers R2a, R2b. Consequently, conveyance speed of paper is controlled, and twisting of paper can be prevented.
