PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance water permeability by lowering the surface tension of water on the rear surface side of a bar screen to a large extent by attaching small bars having a wedge-shaped cross section to the shallow grooved engaging holes formed to the upper surface of a support and fitting large bars having a wedge-shaped cross section in the deep grooved engaging holes formed thereto. SOLUTION: In a water filtering bar screen, shallow grooved engaging holes 2 and deep grooved engaging holes 3 are alternately formed to the upper surface of a support formed from an arbitrary material such as a resin or the like at a predetermined pitch so as to have a trangular (wedge-shaped or trapezoidal) cross section becoming narrow in its depth direction and small bars 4 having a wedge-shaped cross section are attached to the shallow grooved engaging holes 2 while large bars 5 having a wedge-shaped cross section are fitted in the deep grooved engaging holes 3 so as to be freely movable up and down with respect to the support 1.
