PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new microorganism capable of eliminating manganese at low cost when applied to wastewater treatment with no need of making various kinds of water containing manganese strongly alkaline. SOLUTION: This new microorganism belongs to the genus Cedecea GSJ/ MITA24A/ASHO-RO/1 or the genus Shewanella GSJ/MITA24C/ASHO-RO/3 each having the ability to oxidize manganese. The new microorganism can be bred by sunlight alone at pH 5-8. By contacting the microorganisms with manganese-contg. water, the manganese is oxidized and precipitated, thus eliminating it from the water; alternatively, a microorganismal symbiofic body where the microorganism coexists with algae is contacted with manganese-contg. water to oxidize and precipitate the manganese, thus eliminating it from the water.
|
