PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject copolymer capable of producing antifouling coating materials affording antifouling coating films of high adhesiveness and the like hard to developing cracks by including each specific three kinds of component units in specified proportions and specifying the weight-average molecular weight of the final copolymer. SOLUTION: This copolymer is obtained by including (A) 20-80 wt.%; of silyl(meth)acrylate component unit of formula I [R1 is H or methyl; R2 to R4 are each a (cyclo)alkyl or (substituted) phenyl], (B) 0.01-40 wt.% of acrylic unsaturated monomer component unit of formula II R5 is H or methyl; Z is O or NR7 [R7 is a (substituted) alkyl]; R6 is a (substituted) hydroxyalkyl, hydroxycycloalkyl or the like when Z is O, while being H when Z is NR7}, and (C) 5-79.99 wt.% of another unsaturated monomer component unit other than the components A and B, and by designing the final weight-average molecular weight (gel permeation chromatography) to be <=200,000.
