PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polypeptide having β1,3-galactose transferase activity relating to the synthesis of a specific sialyllewis a sugar chain and useful for medicament, food, diagnosis for cancer or the like. SOLUTION: This polypeptide has β 1,3-galactose transferase activity transferring galactose through β1,3 bond to N-acetylglucosamine residue existing on the unreduced end of a sugar chain or transferring galactose through β1,3 bond to N-acetylglucosamine residue or the like existing on the unreduced end of GlcNAc β 1-3Gal β 1-4Glc relating to the synthesis of a sialyllewis a sugar chain existing in large intestine cancer where the sialyllewis a sugar chain is expressed. The polypeptide is selected from the group consisting of (A) a polypeptide having an amino acid sequence of the formula, (B) a polypeptide comprising amino acid 31 to 310 in an amino acid sequence of the formula or the like. The polypeptide is obtained by culturing a transformant containing a DNA encoding the polypeptide. |
