PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multistage parking device reliable and safe to use. SOLUTION: A crosswise space (d) between elevating pallets 4, 6 being adjacent to each other at parking floors 2, 5 and having a total width C is set at an almost equal space to be narrower than a proper passage width (a) between the elevating pallet 4 seated on a get-in and -out floor 3 and a traversing pallet 7 being adjacent to the elevating pallet 4 and having a required room width W. Prior to seating the elevating pallet 4 on the get-in and -out floor 3, the traversing pallet 7 at least adjacent to the elevating pallet 4 after seated thereon is stopped after traversing and set-back movement where its crosswise center position is offset apart from the elevating pallet 4 after seated thereon by a distance of nearly (a-d)-(C-W)×1/2 from the crosswise center position of the elevating pallets 4, 6 corresponding to the adjacent position.
