PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a styrenic resin, by which the styrenic resin having the reduced contents of styrene dimer and styrene trimer can be produced in good productivity by a radical polymerization method without lowering the mol.wt. of the styrenic resin. SOLUTION: This method for radically polymerizing styrene to produce a styrenic resin comprises using a multi-functional peroxide having three or more peroxy bonds in the molecule as a polymerization initiator in a peroxide bond concentration of 0.001-0.05 (mole/liter) based on the monomer. The polymerization is carried out at a polymerization temperature of 80-140 deg.C under conditions satisfying the following inequality: kd [I]/ki >=8,000 [(mole)3/(liter)3], wherein kd is the thermal decomposition rate constant [(sec)-1] of the multifunctional peroxide; [I] is an initial peroxy bond concentration (mole/liter); ki is a thermal decomposition initiation rate constant [(liter)2×(sec)-1].
