PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for mass balance and/or moment balance of a reciprocating internal combustion engine as capable of being embodied effectively at a low structural cost. SOLUTION: Two balance shafts 16 and 22 have axes directed parallel with the axis of a crank shaft and are equipped with balance weights installed eccentrically on the balance shafts 16 and 22. The balance shaft 16 is furnished with two gears 14 and 18 coupled therewith 16 in such a way as not capable of relative rotation. One of these gears meshes with a gear 12 formed on the crank shaft 2 for driving the balance shaft 16 while the other gear 18 is furnished with balance weight and rotates another gear 20. The gear 20 forms the balance shaft 22 furnished with other balance weight and is supported by the crank shaft 2 coaxially therewith 2.
