PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control variable octane number with a simple structure for obtaining stable self-ignition combustion in a wide range. SOLUTION: A device is provided with a high-pressure fuel injection valve 2 for supplying high octane number fuel 33 with high pressure, and a low- pressure fuel injection valve 14 for supplying low octane number fuel 42 with low pressure. A low combustion pressure chamber 6 shut out by a needle valve 1 and a high combustion pressure chamber 7 are formed on the high pressure fuel injection valve 2, and the low combustion pressure chamber 6 is provided with a partition plate 63. When low octane number fuel 42 is supplied from the low-pressure fuel injection valve 14, an electromagnetic switching valve 20 for return fuel passages 10, 29 is opened, and is released to the atmosphere. When the needle valve 1 is lifted after the electromagnetic switching valve 20 is closed, mixed fuel in the low combustion pressure chamber 6 is injected with high pressure. Total injection rates and a mixing ratio are controlled with respective driving pulse widths.
