PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base board for external wall material, which can easily drain the rain water which entered the base board. SOLUTION: The rain water which entered a base board drops along the surface of the base board and is screened by a locking projection 3, but since the locking projection 3 is formed with water drain grooves 4 in spaced relation at a specified interval, the rain water is drained from the drain grooves 4. Since the interval between the opposing flowing-in ports sections 5 of the rain drain grooves 4 is made narrow gradually so that the rain water flowing along the base board can easily flow-in, and the interval between opposing flowing-out ports sections 6 is made broad gradually so that the rain water flowing-in can easily be drained, the rain water dropping along the surface of the base board easily drains. In addition, the apex angle 8a of the dam-shaped triangle projection 8 formed in the nearly center section of the flowing-out port 6 puts water draining in the right and left directions, efficiently draining water.
