PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellulosic type membrane for purifying blood for an artificial kidney which can be regenerated from a cellulose type solution using a tertiary amine oxide and at the same time has high water permeability, excellent fractionation characteristic, excellent compatibility with blood, and heat resistance and to provide a method for producing the membrane. SOLUTION: This membrane for purifying blood contains 96-50 wt.% of tertiary amine oxide, cellulose, 4-25 wt.% of hydrophobic polymer having 130 deg.C or higher crystal melting temperature or glass transition temperature, 0-25 wt.% of a polar diluent which does not dissolve cellulose. In this case, the membrane is produced using a composition for forming a film and containing cellulose and the hydrophobic polymer in (98:2) to (60:40) weight ratio (wt.% ratio) in an aqueous solidifying bath.
