PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decompose a difficult to be decomposable sulfur-containing heterocyclic compound such as an alkylated benzothiophene contained in a fossil fuel such as a petroleum, etc., by using a specific microorganism such as of the genus of Rhodococcus. SOLUTION: This method for desulfurization is provided by using a microorganism having a capability of decomposing sulfur containing heterocyclic compounds (preferably benzothiophene, 2-methylbenzothiophene, 3- methylbenzothiophene, 5-methylbenzothiophene, 2-ethylbenzothiophene), preferably using a dormant cells belonging to the genus Rhodococcus or genus Corynebacterium, preferably T09 strain of the genus Rhodococcus or T14 strain of the genus Corynebacterium, and culturing the above microorganisms in a medium containing the sulfur-containing heterocyclic compound. |
