PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decompose a sulfur odor efficiently by a small amount of a drug and to prevent offensive odors and the corrosion of apparatuses by controlling the addition of a peroxide and/or nitrate ions based on the concentration of gas phase or liquid phase hydrogen sulfide or mercaptans. SOLUTION: When sewage retained in a pit 102 in a pump site 101 reaches a definite level, the sewage is supplied to a sewage treatment plant through a sewage pipe 112. Hydrogen sulfide of the sewage is taken from a sampling opening 103, and its concentration is measured by a hydrogen sulfide sensor 104 and input into a controller 105. Simultaneously, a flow rate signal from a flow meter 110 is also input, and the controller 105 calculates the amount of a drug to be added based on both input signals. A pump 106 for adding nitric acid and a pump 107 for adding hydrogen peroxide are actuated/controlled. In this way, a hydrogen sulfide odor can be decomposed by a small amount of the drug, and offensive odors and the corrosion of apparatuses can be prevented.
