PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily purify a fluoroalcohol expected as an alternative of a fluorocarbon to the highly pure one by bringing a gas containing the gaseous fluoroalcohol and gaseous impurities into contact with a reduced nickel catalyst. SOLUTION: A gas containing (A) a gaseous fluoroalcohol in combination with (B) gaseous impurities (preferably at least one kind selected from hydrogen, oxygen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide) is brought into contact with (C) a reduced nickel catalyst to remove the gaseous impurities and to purify the fluoroalcohol. The gas after the contact with the component C is preferably brought into contact with (D) a synthetic zeolite, silica gel or alumina. Especially, the purification method is preferably applied to the purification of 1,1,1- trifluoroethanol. As a result, the fluoroalcohol can be purified to the extremely highly pure one by utilizing a chemical reaction, a chemisorption and a physical adsorption in the gaseous phase.
