PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an external preparation for promotion of percutaneous absorption of a flow molecular weight water-soluble active constituent, having low stimulation to skin and high efficacy by including a branched fatty acid originating from soy bean. SOLUTION: The subject external preparation is obtained by including the branched fatty acid originating from soy bean preferably manifesting properties transparent at 10 deg.C. The preferable amount of the branched fatty acid in the external preparation is 0.01-30 wt.% based on the total of the preparation. For example, a salt of diisopropylamine, urea or the like can be use as the water-soluble low molecular weight constituent mixed in the preparation. This external preparation can be applied to medicines, unregulated drugs, cosmetics or the like, and applied as refreshing water, milky lotions, creams, packs or the like as dosage forms. This external preparation can be blended with color pigments such as tar dyes or the like, preservatives such as paraben or the like, silicone oils such as dimethylpolysiloxane or the like, hydrocarbons such as paraffin or the like.
