<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a heavy metal-fixing agent that includes a specific saccharide derivative, is readily handleable without smell and can allow a metal- containing solution to gel when adding it to the solution by coordinating with the metal in the solution to fix the heavy metal. SOLUTION: This heavy metal-fixing agent comprises a saccharide derivative selected from p-aminophenyl-4,6-O-benzylidene-α-D-glucopyranoside, p- aminophenyl-4,6-O-benzylidene-β-D-glucopyranoside, p-aminophenyl-4,6-O- benzylidene-α-D-galactopyranoside, and p-aminophenyl-4,6-O-benzylidene-β-D- galactopyranoside, or the like, represented by any of formulas I-IV (R1 is an alkyl, phenyl; R2 is p-aminophenyl, 4-pyridyl). The compound represented by any of formulas I-IV is prepared by allowing a p-nitro-phenyl compound of a mono-saccharide to react with benzaldehyde followed by catalytic reduction of the reaction product.</p> |
