PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimicrobial agent exhibiting antibacterial action on bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and suppressed in irritation to skin by including aluminum magnesium silicate and aluminium silicate. SOLUTION: This antimicrobial agent comprises preferably 0.0005-100 wt.% aluminum magnesium silicate and/or aluminum silicate. The antimicrobial agent may be formed as any of liquid, powder, tablet, gel, etc., when the agent contains aluminum magnesium silicate and aluminium silicate and e.g. smectite (montmorillonite group mineral, representative mineral constituting clay) can be used. Furthermore, the smectite is selected from e.g. montmorillonite, magnesian montmorillonite, iron montmorillonite, iron magnesian montmorillonite, beidellite, aluminian beidellite, saponite, aluminian saponite and bentonite.
