PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an insect repellent which comprises a repelling agent, a dispersing agent, an alcoholic solvent, and lavender powder, does not have a sticky touch after used, can refreshingly be used, hardly roughens skins, has an excellent aromatic property and is suitably sprayed on the exposed skin surfaces of human bodies. SOLUTION: This insect repellent comprises (A) an insect-repelling agent (for example, a pyrethroid-based agent), (B) a dispersant, (C) an alcoholic solvent (for example, isopropyl alcohol), and (D) lavender powder. Silicon dioxide added as the component B and the component D are added in amounts of 0.5-1.5%, respectively, in a total amount of 1.5-2.5%. The insect repellent is prepared by adding the component B to a solvent containing the component C, dispersing the component A in the mixture, and then adding the component D to the obtained insect-repelling agent. The component B includes polyoxyethyleneglyceryl triisostearate.
