Composite material of wood and plastic - from phenol resin and polyisocyanate, useful in building industry

Title prod. is obtd. by preparing a mixt. of a phenol resin and a polyisocyanate, which may contain other additives, stirring the mixt. rapidly with wood pieces, and allowing the mixt. to react. The prod. has, in comparison with known resin foams, a higher load-bearing capacity. The phenol resin is a condensation prod. of phenol and formaldehyde, and opt. a sec. amine, which may be modified by ethylene or propylene oxide, tetrachloro- or tetrabromo-phthalic acid anhydride, or lactones. Pref. polyisocyanates are described in DT 2105193. The phenol resin/polyisocyanate mixt. is mixed with wood pieces in a ratio from 1 : 1 to 9 : 1 and the reaction is carried out in moulds to form sheets.
