Operation is with difference value transmission, and the scanned values of signal parameters are tested at the receiving end for an abrupt change of at least one scanned value with respect to at least one adjacent in space and/or in time scanned value, and/or to a value depending on such scanned values, and/or to a function depending on such a scanned value, and/or to a combination of such scanned vaoues. When such an abrupt change is detected, a number of following scanned values is tested for whether it satisfies specified criteria, and if the criteria are satisfied, the abruptly changed scanned value is suppressed and replaced by an adjacent, non-distorted scanned value etc. During reconstruction of the scanned values following the suppressed value, the replacement value or function, or their combination is taken as the basis, as in 2,250,019. When an abrupt change of a radient is detected, the gradients of a specified number of following scanned values of at least one series of values statistically dependent on the series of values to be tested is formed; if a specified tolerance limit is exceeded, at least a specified percentage of gradients is uses as a criterion for error testing.
