Steel sheath armoured glass component - with parting material glass surface coating and insulating packing

The steel sheath armoured glass tube or part comprises on the outer surface of the glass component a layer of thermal insulating parting material and on top of this an insulating packing filling the space between the steel armour and the glass. The function of the parting material is the prevention of formation of a solid bond between the packing and the glass. The steel armour has pref. intermittent corrugations. The system successfully overcomes the problems arising from the difference in thermal expansion of glass and steel.
