PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel driving method capable of surely resetting lighting condition in a precedently executed sub-field during a preliminary discharge period by surely shifting a display cell causing writing discharge to a trickle discharge at the time of starting a maintaining period. SOLUTION: A plasma display panel performs writing discharge by applying scanning pulses and data pulses to scanning electrodes and data electrodes for a scanning period, respectively, and performs the trickle discharge to make a display cell emit light by applying maintaining pulses to the scanning electrodes and a common electrode for a maintaining period, respectively. When applying a 1st maintaining pulse 9a for a maintaining period in this plasma display panel, a voltage applied to a discharge space between the scanning electrodes and the data electrodes facing each other is set lower than a voltage applied to a surface discharge space between the scanning electrodes and the common electrode.
