PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ejection mechanism for a tape recorder capable of ejecting a tape cassette by operating an ejection means in a play mode. SOLUTION: An operating element 82, a control lever 70 and an operating element 78 are disposed between an opening/closing key 80 and a slide lever 60 equipped with pinch rollers 34. When the opening/closing key 80 is operated in the play mode, the slide lever 60 operates cooperatively and the pinch rollers 34 slide to the position where the rollers part from a capstan shaft. The cassette may, therefore, be ejected even in the case the connection of batteries is interrupted by the fall of a headphone stereo, etc., in the play mode. Then, the cassette may be easily ejected by operating the opening/closing key 80 even in the play mode. A cap may be opened, i.e., the cassette may be ejected simply by operating the opening/closing key 80 without operating a stop key in the play mode.
