PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce deterioration of a picture due to a saturated part of an image signal obtained from an image pickup element. SOLUTION: A saturation detection section 14 detects a saturated part of an image signal outputted from a CCD 2, a color separation section 5 separates RGB signals and the RGB signals receive prescribed processing and color difference signals are obtained. The detected saturated part is stored in an FIFO memory 15 and then read, and a control signal generating section 16 generates a control signal where a prescribed waveform is provided around the saturated part, which is stored in a memory 17. A suppression signal generating section 18 generates a suppression signal Ss from the control signal read from the memory 17, and a suppression section 12 suppresses the color difference signals in response to the waveform.
