摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extremely reduce the local expansion of a negative electrode and the occurrence of a nonreacting portion and improve the life characteristic of a battery by containing a metal oxide having an excellent elctrolyte absorbing functrion in a negative electrode active material. SOLUTION: One kind selected from a group of MgO, Al2O3, BaO and ZnO is singularly used for a metal oxide having an excellent electrolyte absorbing function, for example, or two or more kinds are combined and used. The content of the metal oxide is set to 1-5 wt.%, preferably 1-3 wt.%, of a negative electrode active material. The metal oxide is contained in the negative electrode active material by forming the layer of the metal oxide having the excellent electrolyte absorbing function on the surface of the negative electrode active material or by adding the powder of the metal oxide having the excellent electrolyte absorbing function to the negative electrode active material. The powder with the grain size of 5 μm or below, preferably 3 μm or below, is used for the power of the metal oxide.
