PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To disperse the spectrum of an emission noise caused by a pulse train of a drive pulse, to reduce the emission noise and to improve the display quality by changing at least one side applied period of a scan pulse and a sustain pulse for every sub-field or every plural sub-fields. SOLUTION: The applied period of the sustain pulse IP in respective sub-fields SF1-SF4, that is, respective sustain pulse periods Ts1-Ts4 are different from each other, and are defined as various size relations such as respective Ts1> Ts2>Ts3>Ts4. That is, the holding pulse period Ts being the applying period of the holding pulse IP is lengthened more for a sub-field of which number of times of light emission is less. In such a manner, the applied periods of the scan pulse SP and the sustain pulse IP are changed at every sub-field in this drive. Thus, the matter that the spectrum of the emission noise caused by the pulse trains of respective various drive pulses is concentrated to a prescribed frequency is prevented, and the emission noise is reduced.
