PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve coating face uniformity, fast productivity and operation stability by applying a specified coating liquid by using an offset gravure coater and then drying the film to form a base coating layer. SOLUTION: This printing paper has a sheet-type substrate, resin coating layers containing a polyolefin resin as the main component on both surfaces of the sheet substrate, and a base coating layer produced by applying a gelatin coating liquid essentially comprising gelatin on the surface where a photographic emulsion is to be applied. The gelatin coating base layer is formed by applying a coating liquid having 0.1 to 15 wt.% gelatin concentration by an offset gravure coater and then drying. In this method, the gelatin-containg coating liquid is applied by way of an offset roll 3 and a gravure roll 4 on a web 1 rotating and travelling along a backup roll 2. In this process, it is necessary to control the gelatin-containg coating liquid to be applied on the offset gravure coater.
