PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device which is capable of providing good-quality videos in spite of small-sized and lightweight constitution suitable for a use form by arranging a translucent reflection element for separating illumination light and reflected light between a liquid crystal display and a reflection surface having power. SOLUTION: This video display device 1 has a liquid crystal display 11 of a reflection type for displaying videos, a light source section 12 for supplying the illumination light to be imparted to the liquid crystal display 11, the translucent reflection element (PBS mirror) 14 and observation optical systems (prism faces) 17 to 19. The PBS mirror 14 introduces the illumination light form the light source section 12 to the liquid crystal display 11 and introduces the reflected light of the liquid crystal display 11 to a direction different from a direction heading to the light source section 12. The prism faces 17 to 19 include at least one reflection surface having optical power and introduce the reflected light of the liquid crystal display 11 introduced by the PBS mirror 14 to the observer's eyes, thereby providing the observer with the virtual image of the video displayed on the liquid crystal display 11.
