PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent degradation of picture quality caused by the disconnection of a signal connecting means of a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The device is provided with detecting means 284, R17, 258 and 290 which detect the connecting condition of a signal connecting means L11, which is beforehand selected among plural signal connecting means L10 to L11, and a control means 258 which puts the arrangements of changing liquid crystal molecules to an initial condition prior to displaying of a picture on a liquid crystal display means 200 when a detection is made by the detecting means to indicate that the signal connecting means are disconnected and then, stops displaying of the picture. Thus, when the signal connecting means are reconnected, the displaying of the picture, which was being displayed immediately before the disconnection of the signal connecting means, on the liquid crystal display means is avoided and the degradation of the picture quality caused by the disconnection of the signal connecting means is prevented.
