PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the presence or absence and a size of a protrusion fault on a surface of a rotor with a simple constitution, by bringing a contactor into contact with the rotor of a material to be inspected under a predetermined contact pressure, and detecting a displacement amount of a displacement measuring block when the rotor rotates. SOLUTION: A contactor 5 is brought into contact with a surface of an end 8a of a photosensitive drum 8, a support block 2 is moved to the drum 8 side, a compression spring 7 is deflected by the block 4 to bring about a contact pressure constantly. The drum 8 is rotated, and a distance between a side plate 2a of the block 2 and the block 4 is measured by a distance displacement meter 6. If a protrusion fault exists on the end 81 of the drum 8, the contactor 5 is retracted by the fault, the block 4 is moved to the plate 2a side of the block 2, and the distance between the plate 2a of the block 2 and the block 4 is shortened at a part of the fault. The change of the distance is detected to sense that there is the fault on the end 81 of the drum 8, and a size of the fault is detected.
