PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure a concentration of an anionic surface active agent contained in water with no use of any organic solvent. SOLUTION: Two ml of test water containing an anionic surface active agent is sampled in a semitransparent vessel 1, then a cationic dye solution is added thereto, and a lid 2 is fitted thereon, and after its vigorous agitation for 1 min., the lid 2 is removed and the test water is discarded. One ml of aqueous solution containing a cationic surface active agent is sampled in the vessel 1, and the lid 2 is fitted thereon, and after its gentle agitation, a color of the colored solution is compared with reference colors 3, and the same color as or similar color to that of the colored solution is selected therefrom. A numerical value displayed in a position of the reference colors 3 is a concentration (mg/L) of the anionic surface-active agent contained in the test water. Accordingly, with no use of any organic solvent or expensive separatory funned for separating the test water from the organic solvent which requires much money and much working labor, the low-cost safe measurement of the anionic surface active agent concentration can be facilitated anywhere.
