PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make graspable a plurality of extraction results at the same time by displaying pixels, which belong to extraction areas and have values, regarding the lightness values of an image, included in some of lightness ranges set for the respective extraction areas and excluded from some of them, in gray as an intermediate color between white and black. SOLUTION: In the extraction areas 20, 30, and 40 of a display image for which binary display is normally selected, areas 21, 31, and 41 consisting of pixels of lightness included in respectively set lightness ranges are displayed in white. Areas 22, 32, and 42 of pixels having the lightness outside the lightness ranges are displayed in black. Then an area 23 belonging to the extraction areas 20 and 30 and consisting of pixels which have original-image lightness outside the lightness range set for the extraction area 20 and in the lightness range set for the extraction area 30 is displayed in gray. An area 50 included in none of the extraction areas is displayed in the display color of the original image.
