The invention relates to a method and a device for producing airbag coverings with at least one tear-off strip. The covering (1) is produced using the desired layers, e.g. a decorative layer (4), a support layer (5), etc. The tear-off strips (2) are then cut into the covering (1), whereby said strips (2) do not penetrate the covering (1). The covering (1) is introduced into a cutting receptacle (10). The tear-off strips (2) are cut into the covering (1) from the interior by means of a cutter (11). The depth of cut and the position of the cutter (11) can be controlled in relation to the cutting receptacle (10).
